Since the pandemic shook our world and the experience of how we connect with others, I have been practicing remotely. I have found that teletherapy has been as effective as meeting in person in terms of relationship building, creating a safe space, and communicating openly, honestly, and directly. For many clients with busy lives, online therapy reduces the obstacles of travel, traffic, and parking, and provides a simple way of managing billing/payment.

I believe that one of the bravest things you can do is to begin to understand your own story. From this understanding and processing of your unique story, you can let go of traumas that control you, anxiety and depression road blocks, bad relationships, and overall the emotional pain that may prevent you from living a happy and fulfilling life that gets you excited to wake up to everyday. I want you to be free of that pain so that you can find meaning, excitement, and purpose in work, friendships, relationships, family, and really ALL areas of your life. You DESERVE this and I'm here to help you on this healing journey you deserve! So what is it like working with me? Therapy should not be a one-sided conversation and I'm definitely not a smile-and-nod therapist. I want to work collaboratively WITH you and I can promise that I am as real as it gets. You may hear me swear (haha), laugh hard with you, and just be my authentic self. For you to be real with me, I also need to be real too! I will work hard with you and to HEAR and SEE you starting your journey of healing. I work with most mental health concerns and have specialize in trauma recovery, working with LGBTQ+ individuals, relationship counseling, college mental health, and ADHD and Autism assessment just to name a few. I can usually get you in same week. Check out my website and lets connect!

Life Coach, MDiv, MA
People want fullness of love in life (in work, relationship and purpose), but get stymied by anger, anxiety, or existential dilemmas. Sometimes talking about it isn't enough to transform it. To make significant change, after we name emotions and explore their sensations, we can build a new somatic relationship. By compassionately attending to old habits, then invoking new awareness of how to thrive, we liberate ourselves from past patterns and welcome new joys. If you like contemplative exploration of the roots of your issues, guidance to find your inner ah-ha!, and support for your own wisdom to lead you forward, give me a call. I believe the energy we call Divine (or Source, Consciousness, Godde, All) is within you and around you, ready to speak. You have the answers within you, I'm here to help you find them- and implement them.

Online therapy is such a wonderful opportunity to do deep and powerful therapeutic work in a way that is both convenient and secure. I want all my clients, online and in person, to feel the same warmth and compassion as we work through situations and experiences. In much of the same way that we do in person, my online work is based around building a supportive therapeutic relationship. In therapy, potential for healing and growth occurs through through the relationship that we build together. I really enjoy working with clients who are trying to figure out how to manage or explore the difficult feelings – sometimes anxiety and depression - that can emerge during self-exploration, identity development, life changes, working on relationship issues among monogamous and poly/ENM/CNM people, career or work shifts, LGBTQIA+ clients, and so much more. Work with me often involves exploring patterns, looking at the imprints of families of origin, and addressing ways in which those long past experiences come up in the present.

Psychedelic psychotherapy preparation and integration are also available with referrals to clinics and others who can provide medication administration. Psychological assessment to clarify diagnoses such as autism, bipolar disorder, ADHD, etc., Independent Medical Evaluations (IME), worker’s compensation, preemployment for first responders, and fitness-for-duty-evaluations are also offered. Approaching patients with cultural humility is a core value at Malak Psychology honoring who you are, your ancestors, and the indigenous land we occupy. Grounded in decolonizing mental health, liberation, and feminist psychologies, my practice employs multimodal approaches, including dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, cognitive processing therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic experiencing, emotionally focused couples therapy, Gottman, family systems, psychoanalysis, and more. Empowering you to forge your unique path, I serve as a guide with an emphasis on agency and self-determination. Collaborative wellness plans allow participants to decide the depth of exploration into subjects. Telehealth psychology support for life adjustments, trauma, relationships, and body issues. With technology, you can experience all the benefits of in-person therapy in the comfort and privacy of your own home and have continuity of care when you travel. It can be especially helpful to those who find it challenging to travel to an office for appointments due to location, work, children at home, lifestyle, or other practical or personal reasons. You may be located abroad or be a professional who travels, telehealth allows you to get the support and resources and meet you where your life is at. While there are multiple ways that counseling can take place online, I work primarily with face-to-face video conferencing via Zoom and, on occasion, telephone sessions. I always hold my sessions in a quiet and confidential space, giving you the same confidentiality & professionalism that you experience within an office setting. Most, if not all, of my clients, find virtual sessions to be highly effective and convenient. They allow for the comfort and safety of therapy in your own space, and no travel time is often less vulnerable than needing to go to an office. Research of multiple studies finds that online therapy is equally effective as in-person for most cases. That being said I always advocate for what works best for each individual and it is wonderful to have choices to find your best path whichever that may be. If you are not tech-savvy or anxious about using technology, I'll make it as seamless as possible. I have chosen a platform that is easy to use, and I am happy to assist you with any questions or concerns. A common concern I hear from clients regarding online therapy is finding a quiet and/or confidential space when you’re homebound with children, and/or family members or roommates. Please plan this out in advance so you have quiet and privacy during your session. Since it is so convenient many times people forget to allow themselves a few minutes to "switch hats" and allow themselves a few breaths and get settled into being present and in the head/body space for your session. Headphones or AirPods can often make audio clearer or provide more privacy, but are not necessary. Given that video sessions can be conducted on your smartphone, clients have found it helpful to go to a park, connect from wherever you may be, and/or walk around your neighborhood. Get creative and support yourself. Find a private space that allows you to receive support no matter where you are. You are welcome to have pets join your space if you find that comforting and supporting, and you may see my fellow feline/canine therapists join in one of our sessions on my end.
