Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Art Therapy Uses creative activities like drawing, painting, or sculpture as a way to express emotions. It is especially helpful when words are hard to find.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) An evidence-based treatment for PTSD that teaches clients to reframe unhelpful thoughts about trauma. It helps reduce guilt, shame, and fear.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Music Therapy Uses music listening, songwriting, or rhythm exercises to support healing. It is effective for stress, emotional expression, and cognitive challenges.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Play Therapy Uses toys, games, and creative play to help children express emotions. It is especially useful when children can’t fully verbalize their feelings.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: At Toronto Psychotherapy Space, we believe therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Each client comes to therapy with their own experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals, which is why our therapists tailor their approach to the individual rather than using the same method with everyone. Our team draws from a wide range of evidence-based and evidence-informed approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, attachment-based therapy, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness and somatic approaches, play-based and creative therapies, and the Gottman Method for couples, among others. Depending on your needs, your therapist may integrate elements from several approaches while working collaboratively with you to determine what feels most helpful. Above all, we aim to provide therapy that feels warm, compassionate, practical, and genuinely tailored to you.

Toronto Psychotherapy Space (TPS Therapy) Practice Description
Toronto Psychotherapy Space (TPS Therapy) is a warm and welcoming psychotherapy practice offering in-person therapy in Toronto and virtual therapy throughout Ontario. We believe that finding the right therapist can make all the difference, and our goal is to make that process feel comfortable, supportive, and straightforward. One of the things that makes our practice unique is that we are a place where every member of the family can find support. Our team of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers provides therapy for adults, couples, children, teenagers, families, and parents. Whether you're looking for support for yourself, your child or teenager, your relationship, or your family as a whole, we can help connect you with a therapist whose experience and approach align with what you're looking for. Each therapist on our team brings their own personality, areas of expertise, training, and therapeutic style. This allows us to thoughtfully match clients with a therapist who feels like the right fit for their individual needs, goals, and preferences. We understand that feeling comfortable, understood, and genuinely connected with your therapist is an important part of the therapeutic process. Our therapists support clients with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, trauma, stress and burnout, self-esteem and self-confidence, body image concerns, perfectionism, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, parenting concerns, school-related challenges, family conflict, and major life transitions. We also support people who may not have a specific diagnosis or concern but simply feel overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or ready to better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their lives. Our couples therapists work with partners experiencing communication difficulties, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, trust concerns, intimacy challenges, and relationship transitions. Our child and teen therapists provide developmentally appropriate support for younger clients while recognizing the important role parents and families can play in a child's well-being. We also work directly with parents and families looking for guidance, stronger communication, healthier relationships, and support navigating challenging periods together. We believe therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Our therapists draw from a wide variety of evidence-based and evidence-informed approaches based on each client's unique needs and goals. Across our team, approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, attachment-based therapy, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness and somatic approaches, play-based and creative therapies, and the Gottman Method for couples, among others. Rather than expecting every client to fit into the same type of therapy, our therapists work collaboratively with clients to determine what feels most helpful and appropriate for them. Above all, we want therapy to feel like a place where you can be yourself. Our therapists strive to create relationships that are warm, compassionate, collaborative, and non-judgmental, while helping clients develop greater insight, practical strategies, healthier patterns, and meaningful, lasting change. TPS Therapy offers in-person psychotherapy at our Toronto offices on the Danforth, as well as secure virtual therapy for clients throughout Ontario. With daytime, evening, and weekend availability across our team, we aim to make accessing therapy as convenient as possible. We also offer free 20-minute telephone or video consultations, giving you an opportunity to speak with a therapist, ask questions, and get a sense of whether they feel like the right fit before booking your first full session. If you're unsure who to choose, our team can also help guide you toward a therapist based on what you're looking for support with. You don't need to know exactly what kind of therapy you need before reaching out. Tell us a little about what you're experiencing and what you're hoping to get support with, and we'll help you find a therapist on our team who may be a great fit. Our hope is to be a warm, trusted place where every member of your family can find the support that's right for them.
